Currently our engineering team has a unique role for an Engineering Project Manager to lead, deliver and execute engineering requirements and compliance for a small team of engineers and ICT professionals supporting Joint Data Network solutions for Gov and ADF.

About the Role

A leading Defence industry organisation is seeking an Engineering Project Manager to support delivery within a complex, high-profile Commonwealth capability program. This role sits within an established, high-performing team and is responsible for managing engineering activities across sustainment and capability evolution.
You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, working across a broad stakeholder landscape while ensuring engineering governance, compliance, and delivery outcomes are achieved.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate engineering activities across the system lifecycle, including change management forums (e.g. engineering change proposals, review boards, and working groups)
  • Exercise delegated engineering authority in line with applicable regulatory and governance frameworks
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance across electrical/electronic engineering domains, including communications and ICT systems
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to provide engineering advice and resolve complex technical issues
  • Review and assess technical designs, engineering artefacts, and delivery plans, providing recommendations and driving outcomes
  • Ensure delivered systems meet safety, regulatory, and capability requirements
  • Support planning and execution of engineering work, including resource management, prioritisation, and milestone tracking
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, contributing to a strong team culture and capability uplift


Required Experience & Skills

  • Degree-qualified engineer (recognised by Engineers Australia or equivalent) in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications, ICT, or related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience within Defence or similarly regulated environments
  • Strong background in sustainment and/or capability delivery programs
  • Experience managing engineering activities across complex systems or networks
  • Familiarity with secure communications, tactical data links, or defence-related ICT systems
  • Proven ability to operate autonomously and manage competing priorities in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Australian Defence security clearance NV1 or above.


Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer status (CPEng) or working toward accreditation
  • Experience with enterprise or mission-critical ICT/network systems design and delivery
  • Exposure to engineering governance, assurance, and integration frameworks
  • Experience with modern ICT approaches (e.g. virtualised or containerised systems)
